‘ Be your own kind of beautiful’
Is there anything more satisfying than seeing home tours on YouTube or Instagram? I love nothing more than invading someone’s privacy on the internet and hoping one day I can have a room like theirs. You honestly get so much inspiration out of all video’s they post and I hope that I can inspire someone as well.
So if you haven’t guessed by now what room this is, then this is ‘my’ beauty room. When me and James put our deposit down we said he gets the office and I can have a room for myself and what better way to use the room and than to transform it into my beauty/ dressing room. I am by no means a beauty blogger with hundreds of make up products or do I need 4 wardrobes full of the latest fashion trends. I simply just wanted something that I can enjoy designing and having my ‘own’ space.
Starting with the whole idea around the design and layout of the room. Firstly I wanted to go plain neutral colours with hints of pinks. So my colour scheme for the room was whites and greys…… shock! I’ve always dreamt of having a room where I can just feel calm and relaxed and this room does exactly that for me.
My dressing table area; this is where I imagine myself being this huge global makeup artist….. joking! I enjoy this space in the room the most because it’s everything I’ve dreamt of. Having a Hollywood mirror for start off is just what makes this room. This is where you get the ultimate light from, I cannot recommend this enough. It’s the best lighting and I can’t Imagine my life not using it. The dressing table itself is from my furniture.com and it’s the one I originally wanted in this room when we moved in. It has so much storage and it really transforms the room from the Ikea dressing table. As for the details on the dressing table I’ve just kept it very simplistic with clear jars holding my cotton pads as I used these everyday and find it very helpful having them on show. I’ve also added a few of my favourite perfumes to the bottom of the mirror and my favourite mirrored tissue box from Laura Ashley. I also got this bargain chair from next when it was in the sale, it was reduced to £175.
Above my dressing table I have four prints from desenio these are a mixture of makeup prints and fashion quotes, very girly related prints.
In the corner of this section I have my gorgeous free standing mirror from homesense; this was one of those random visits to the store and finding that one perfect item. I’ve never came across this mirror again and I wish I could to get one for another room. It was roughly £60 and that’s a huge bargain for free standing mirrors. I also use my lantern from Laura Ashley in front of it with huge hurricane candles. To the side of the mirror I have my radiator cover, this was where my dressing table originally use to be, but it took up the space and left a huge gap on the floor. I love radiator covers (if you haven’t guessed as I’ve got one in every room) they add such a huge touch to the room and it’s also another area that I can use for accessories.
Windows… in the last post I did about my beauty room I had pink blinds. These were because we brought all the grey ones from Homebase and they had ran out for ages, I needed blinds for when I get changed or when someone stays. So all they had were these bright pink Barbie blinds. These weren’t staying as they were too girly for me. We’ve finally found some grey ones after hunting for ages for them! On the windowsill I have a mixture of items and these are always changing. I usually always have some faux flowers on the side with a mixture of books. I also have a few trinkets from Laura Ashley dotted around on the side.
The spare bed, this is still the same bed as previously shown. I have seen a few beds that I’m interested in for here but I’ve never found ‘the one’ so I’ve left it till I’ve finally found the right one. To make the bed look more pretty I’ve added some fairy lights from Laura Ashley. Bedding is mainly from h&m, I find the prices so reasonable for these pieces. Next to the bed is my bargain item and it’s the mirrored side table, I don’t have room for two so I thought I would splash out a little on just the one. However I got this off Debenhams and they had 70% off online on the mirrored furniture range which is why I have so much of this collection dotted around the house. On top of the unit I have my gorgeous iconic light in white, with some candles and a book.
I’ve also added around the whole of the room some gorgeous prints. I buy all my prints from Desenio and they are so worth the money as I know I will always use these. I also buy the frames online too as you can select different colours (obviously I only ever go for silver). I have attached all the prints below as I would be here forever listing them all.
Last part of the room is my most loved section, I get questions about this part all the time and it’s also my most loved images on Instagram too. I just bought this plain ikea unit and I like to accessories with coffee table books, candles, mirrored trinkets, makeup brushes and perfume. It’s something so simple but I love every couple of weeks having a little rearrange and changing the layout of this. I would definitely recommend one of these units.
You can see more updates of this room on my home Instagram account @girlwiththelonghairhome For any recent purchases for the room and any changes I make.
